How To Treat & Prevent Head Lice In The Future.

Treating Head Lice & Preventing them from occurring again.

Head Lice is a common and frustrating experience for both children and their parents. Below we explain the best method to use our Po-Lice hair ties to prevent your child from getting head lice in the future.

1. If your child does not have head lice currently and you are wishing to protect them from getting them in the future. Simply attach the Po-Lice hair tie to your child’s hair best suited in a pony tail where the band is up as high as possible. See images below.

2. If your child currently has head lice please follow the below instructions to first rid their hair of the head lice, then follow with the Po-Lice hair ties to prevent them getting head lice in the future.

Insecticide treatments for head lice treatment

Insecticidal treatments have to be registered with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), this means they have been evaluated as both an effective and safe treatment method. To ensure that the shampoo/lotion treatment is registered with the TGA, check for the AUST-R number on the label.

Studies for products in the lotion form seem to be more effective than their equivalent shampoo treatments.

Why isn’t the head lice treatment working?

You have not used enough of the treatment to cover the entire scalp and hair.
You have not followed up with the essential repeat treatment after 7 to 10 days (to kill nits and their eggs, which often survive the first application).
You’re getting reinfested due to head-to-head contact with another person (this is where Po-Lice hair ties are most effective in preventing this from occurring to your child.).

Follow with the lice comb to remove the Head Lice and eggs.

Here’s how to do it:

Apply Conditioner, thick white is best to dry, brushed (detangled) hair and comb through with a normal comb. The conditioner will stun the head lice for up to 20 minutes and makes it difficult for them to grip the hair or crawl around and thus making it easier to pick them up in the comb.
Systematically comb sections of the hair from the roots to the ends with a head lice comb, make sure to cover all the areas of the scalp and hair.
Make sure you regularly wipe the comb clean onto a tissue to check for lice and eggs.
Comb every part of your child’s head several times, this makes sure to get any lice or eggs that could have been missed.
If you find live lice or nits, you need to treat your child’s hair. You can recognise live eggs because they’ll pop when you squeeze them.
Repeat this whole process including the insecticide two to three times over two to three weeks.

Final Stage: Head lice prevention for the future.

This is where the Po-Lice hair ties come into effect, its time to protect your child for the future from head lice and the pain that comes along with them, both for the child and parents.
